Fagaras Mountains, known as Transylvanian Alps, are the highest mountains within the Romanian Carpathians. They are oriented East-West and their length is about 70 km. Here you’ll find 8 peaks with elevations over 2500 m, 42 peaks with elevations over 2400 m and other 150 peaks over 2300 m.
As the full traverse of Fagaras Mountains, this tour is demanding and challenging too, being designed for fit trekkers with the right level of training and experience (mandatory to complete the entire route). Because we are going to spend all nights at mountain huts / chalets, we will have to do our best to complete in time each stage.

Day 1: Arrival in Bucharest-Romania on Otopeni International Airport (or to another location choosen by yourself). Transfer to Brasov city by minibus. Accommodation in a 3* hotel or private guesthouse. In the evening, dinner and easy walking in the historical center of Brasov city.
Day 2: After breakfast we’ll drive to Sambata Touristic Complex (about 95 km from Brasov). From here we’ll start hiking the trail along Sambata Valley that will lead us in 2-3 hours to the hut with the same name, located at an elevation of 1400m. Here, we’ll prepare our equipment and we’ll rest for the following day.
Day 3: After a very early breakfast we’ll start with a steep hike in order to reach the ridge line of Fagaras Mountains near Fereastra Mica a Sambetei (2196m). From here we’ll follow it to the West admiring (or climbing) in order Galasescu Mic (2410m), Galasescu Mare (2470m), Galbenele (2456m) and we’ll stop for lunch at Portita Vistei (2310m). After re-fueling our bodies with some extra energy, we’ll start climbing two of the Top 3 Romanian summits: Vistea Mare (2527m) and Moldoveanu (2544m)-the highest one in Romanian Carpathians. After enjoying the view (if we’re lucky to have a clear day), we’ll descent to Podragu mountain hut (2136m) where we spend the night. Being the hardest day of the tour, you must expect to walk 12-13 hours.
Day 4: Today we’ll have an easier stage. In the morning we’ll walk up to be back in the ridge and we’ll keep going to the West. On our route we’ll traverse the place called „3 steps to death” (don’t worry, it sounds worse than it is in reality). At the end of the day we’ll descend to Balea Lake for night rest in a nice clean hotel.
Day 5: Trekking on route Balea Lake – Capra Saddle – Caltun Lake – Negoiu Peak (2535m) – Negoiu Chalet (1550m). Duration 7 1/2 -8 1/2 hours. Medium to high difficulty tour. Accommodation at Negoiu chalet. Sauna and hot water showers available.
Day 6: Trekking tour on the following route: Negoiu chalet – Serbota peak (2331m) – Scara Peak (2308m) – Barcaciu mountain hut (1550m). Duration 7-8 hours, medium difficulty. Accommodation Barcaciu mountain hut.
